Dear Vivian,
I know your having a hard time coping with the kemo-therapy, its very tough and i commend you for being brave enough to take the full dose every time. I want you to know that i have faith in you and i believe you can beat it. You are a extraordinary woman. You are incredibly intelligent and witty,you are be funny at times but you can be brutally honest and harsh in tone. We all know how amazing of a scholar you are but i do not think you have to make it so clear that you are a doctor too. I am sorry for all the tests but they are all equally necessary and important for us to fully understand your specific cancer stage and development. I know its not easy to have people poking at you all day like your some sort of science experiment but we are doing it for your own good, we are trying to make you better. I just want you to know I am looking forward to getting to know your more through out your hopefully short visit here and i want you to know i will always be here for you, if you need anything I am just a bell ring away and ill be right at your bedside. stay strong sweetheart.

Summary:
The book begins with Vivian Bearing talking to the audience from her room in the hospital. Right away you can tell she is a extremely well read scholar and she knows everything about her favorite type of writing, 17th century poems. Another automatic tone you can pick up from her right of the bat is her sassy know it allness, she makes it very obvious how smart she is by not only talking like it but actually by saying it and talking about herself like she is so self absorbed. As the story moves on you learn about Vivian through what she tells the audience, who she talks to most of the time. she talks about her childhood, life as a professor, and other life impacting event from her life. While reading you really get a feel of how staying in a hospital for an extended amount of time might be and feel like. The loneliness, boringness, and confusing place a hospital and its doctors are. Vivian does not seem to have any family so i think Susie is going to be friend her in the end.
